Did you know the average American consumes about 34 gb of information every day?
If you ask me, we live in both the worst time and the best time in human history to have ADHD.
Its the worst time because in the digital age, there are increasingly more distractions then ever before.
With countless corporations competing for our attention, and these devices that have basically become an extension of our bodies, we use them as a primary source of distraction, to avoid boredom by spending countless hours filling our minds with the thoughts of strangers at an unprecedented rate.
We have forgotten what simply being bored and having moments of quiet reflection is like.
But it’s also the best time to have ADHD because in this very moment, we have access to the most powerful arsenal of tools ever built to acquire resources and information.
We can leverage this to our advantage since we must rely on external devices for our brain output and to assist us with our executive functions. Because of the fast paced nature of information, we can also capture, organize, distill and express the content, thoughts and ideas that enter our busy brains with more efficiency than ever.
Some ways to do this is through note taking apps like Obsidian or Notion and with the many integrations from other calendar and todo apps that allow us to centralize all our organizational efforts into one source. This is what I call an external brain, since it acts a digital hub to connect and sync all tasks, scheduling, and information instead of clouding your internal brain.
But because both the positive and negative outcomes can be so much more extreme for us people with ADHD, its that much more important for us to find a Yin and Yang of both utilizing helpful technologies that can improve our quality of life and abstaining from harmful ones, that way we can actually thrive in the digital age.
With that said, I’d like to offer you a free resource to help you rewire your digital habits if you struggle with excessive screen time. This 15 step blueprint will provide you with tips and strategies to help you regain your focus and transform your device from a source of distraction into a productivity machine.
Thats all for this week, talk to you soon my friend.
