There are many things that aren’t taught in school, but the most important one is how to learn effectively.
You’re also not taught crucial life skills such as decision making, personal finance and business. But all those things could be learned on your own if you were just taught how to truly learn.
One of the many reasons I did so poorly in school (besides my teachers keeping my desk in the hallway), was that I hated memorizing information I was not interested in.
Having ADHD means your brain is driven by your interests; but if you’re not interested in something, it’s as if it doesn’t even exist.
Even without that extreme challenge of having ADHD, it can be painful having to memorize information to “learn”. It’s monotonous, uninspiring, and with our busy brains, we are more likely to forget key information as soon as we don’t need it. And in many cases, even before we need it!
Being diagnosed with ADHD when I was 8, I was told during my entire time in public school system that I was very smart but also had a learning disability. I didn’t realize until I was older that I actually can learn faster and more and more effectively than most people I know when it comes to subjects that I’m very interested in (Hyperfocus + Obsidian, need I say more?).
But the reason school doesn’t teach you to how to learn and think critically is because the modern education system was designed for the industrial revolution, to generate component labor. That means, public schools were made to create parts (workers) that fit into someone else’s machine (company).
Your creative and curious brain conflicts with this kind of limiting system, and that’s a good thing. Education in its true form is freedom. If learning is not guided by curiosity, it limits creativity and becomes nothing more than information memorization.
We don’t learn how to actually learn in public school because it’s designed to teach us just enough to be complacent wage slaves and withhold the knowledge that enables us to live an autonomous life.
The digital revolution flips this factory education model on its head. Now you can learn whatever you want from whoever you want, at your own pace. You can turn knowledge you acquire for free into income by sharing your curiosity with the world through digital content.
The best part is, you already have a huge advantage and head start in this digital renaissance. Why? Because you are a note-maker, which means you are actively creating knowledge assets with your learnings. What is the point in doing this if not to share your knowledge with others?
Don’t hoard your personal knowledge, it is your ticket to true freedom.
The creator economy provides us all with an equal opportunity to build our own environment, where our curious brains become an advantage and not a setback.
Imagine being able to freely explore your curiosity for a living. That might have seemed like a pipe dream 15 years ago, but now are you starting to see that the opportunity is right in front of you?
I’m not going to lie to you. It takes discipline, focus, and consistency to develop the skills necessary to thrive. You have the tools already, you just need the blueprint and support. I would love to help provide that for you, so let’s chat and discover how. Talk to you soon!
Stay curious, my friend.
